Vancouver -- B.C. municipalities have signed a deal with the provincial government that promises big cuts in air pollution over the next five years.

Premier Gordon Campbell signed the Climate Action Charter with Brenda Binnie, the president of the Union of B.C. Municipalities, at the organization's annual convention in Vancouver.

Under the agreement, local governments will try to become "carbon neutral" by 2012.
